We had a "blast from the past" when out of the blue Ross S phoned Judi and myself late one night. He was up the hill and obviously bored, he was trawling thru the old visitors book. He found our name there. We had "broken in" one Christmas a couple of years back and signed the book. It was great to hear Ross's voice again after so many years. Our fathers we're good friends (both sadly now dead) and together with a hardy bunch of others they helped build DSC. My earliest memory of the club is the piece of ground where it now stands. Morley S Bruce H and Jim John (from Ski Services) were standing around waving their arms and dreaming. Knowing Bruce, they'd probably "had a few" too. Anyway, all those fond memories came rushing back the other night after Ross's call. You know, I think Judi and myself will join again. I'll see if I can rope in Ian Stead too, he's always good for dragging packs up the hill in a blizzard at 11.30 on a Friday night :-)
Cheers

Grant, myself and Paul Rix travelled down to NP the evening of Friday 04 August. Saturdays skiing was rather 'firm' & busy’ but all the same, very enjoyable. Saturdays Curry Night was a huge successful with popadums & jam for breakfast on Sunday for those adventurous enough (Thx Grant M) Sunday brought rain and strong winds and not necessarily from the curry night either. We were not keen to battle the weather on the mountain, opting to battle the traffic back to AKL instead – see you all at the Mid Winter Xmas Party!

Grant, myself and Yuko travelled down on Saturday 22 July arriving around 11am. The weather was perfect and the snow conditions awesome with heaps of snow – we were able to ski straight to our car in carpark 8 once we completed the food run for the Mountain lodge. Sunday saw in increase in wind with -9 on the upper mountain it was freezing but the snow conditions were good. A great weekend had by all. See you all at the Curry Night at National Park!

Grant, myself and Yuko travelled down on Saturday 08 July and skied Turoa on the Sunday. Weather was looking appalling however the decision was made to travel around to Turoa anyway to get in at least 1 or 2 runs seems we have travelled all the way from AKL (Whakapapa was a no go according to the Snow Report). To our surprise when we arrived the rain stopped, there was no wind and the clouds moved away and we had a fab day SOMETIMES YA JUST GOTTA BE THERE!

Went down with family Friday July 7th. Sat 8th weather was bad, no skiing. Sunday 9th looked to be the same. All the weekend visitors went home. At 11am the mountain opened. Great skiing in short queues. Snow was a bit soft but there was lots of it.
Monday 10th. A good days skiing but queues were bigger, classic school holiday stuff. Tuesday, lifts open, queues big but drizzly weather. Only had a few runs as Kimberley, Sarah and I had a cold. Only did a half day skiing. Swam at AC baths, Taupo, on the way home.

Went down Friday night 30th June. Skied Saturday and Sunday at Whakapapa. Heaps of snow considering the 80cm base. Really well groomed, piled up deep. Not a rock to see on the trails. The waterfall and rock garden were the best runs. The valley runs were a bit narrow but were also good. Queue was about 3 minutes on rock garden, 0 mins on centennial and waterfall. If you didn’t go because you thought a school holiday weekend and only 3 runs open would mean massive queues you were very wrong.

March 18th 2006. Walked the Tongariro crossing. Fantastic views. Steep climbs, great variety with the craters and lakes along the way. I recommend you do it one day. See some photos at the site shown.
