Dear member

Mountain update

Both sides of the mountain are 100% open, with an average snow base of around 165cm. Rumour has it that the Rock Garden is once again rockless, and the Far-West T keeps disappearing with each new snowfall. If you haven't been down yet, now is the time to go.

Mountain Lodge

The mountain lodge is primed and ready for use. It has been decided not to employ a cook for the mountain lodge this season. Food will still be provided, and menus with incremental ingredient amounts have been prepared. The menus can be found in the kitchen drawer. Please pre-book the school holiday period with David Meek, so that we can order the required amount of food. As per previous years, it will be delivered to the public shelter at the Top of the Bruce. The key can be gained from customer services, and then it is just a matter of loading it onto the chairlift up to the lodge.

Mid-Winter Christmas

The mid-winter Christmas party, held at the National Park lodge last month, was a huge success. It was awesome to finally see the hut full again. Combined with two perfect days skiing, great food (even if I do say so myself!), and great company, it was definitely a fantastic weekend. Thanks to those who came down to the mountain and made it such a good weekend.

Club Races

If you're feeling disappointed at having missed the mid-winter Christmas, then make sure you don't miss out on Race Weekend '99, to be held on 18 September. It's the last chance this millennium to get your name on the trophy. Races will be on Saturday morning (weather depending), with prize giving being held on Saturday night at the mountain lodge. Sections include Junior (under 16), Seniors, and Masters, and an open snowboard division. As always, the apres-ski events will be more serious than the racing, so make sure you're down there. Avoid disappointment, book today.

Activities

New Members

The committee would like to welcome the following new members to the club:

All new members this season, and the person who recruited them go into the draw to win a $200 Snow Centre voucher. This will be drawn at club races. There's plenty of snow and still time to get in the draw, so get recruiting!

Bookings

Please make David's life easier by sending a cheque with your booking form, or a cheque straight away with phone bookings. Remember, he's a booking officer, not a debt collector!

Visitors Book

Please make sure to sign your name in the visitors' book when you arrive at either lodge. In the event of a fire, this is the best method of checking everyone is accounted for.

Club Beanies

Thanks to the genius of Jim Crooks, we now have beanies (aka very stylish woollen hats) for sale for only $15. They are navy blue with the Downhill Ski Club logo in gold. They are very cool, and a great way to support the club. Contact Natalie if you're interested in purchasing one.

AGM

The AGM is still a couple of months away, but once again it's time to act if you have any submissions to be discussed. The address for correspondence is P.O.Box 1741 AUCKLAND. The proposed date for the AGM is 21 November.

Subscriptions

The great opportunity for ex-members to rejoin with no penalty costs or rejoining fees will end in a couple of weeks. If you haven't already done so, then please pay your subscriptions as soon as possible.

Fuel hose

If anybody has about 3m of ¾ inch fuel hose that they would like to donate to a good cause, then the Club could make very good use of it on the diesel fuel system of the generator. Even though the mountain lodge is on mains power, the generator is maintained ready for use.
