Dear member
The ski season is over for another year, and while it wasn't as spectacular as the seasons immediately prior to the eruption, it was a vast improvement over the last couple. I hope that everyone was able to get down to the mountain to experience the snow and enjoy the lack of queues, especially at Whakapapa. Whether or not it was my good fortune, but each time I was there, the number of parked cars was huge while the number of people skiing seemed small. The improved season has certainly helped build Club funds to a much healthier level. This doesn't mean that we can be complacent however, and we must continue to attract new members and increase the both lodges' usage throughout the year.
Downhill Ski Club 38th AGM - 4.00pm, 21 November 1999, Telecom House, 8 Hereford St, Newton, Auckland.
With the end of the skiing year comes the AGM. This year we are once again fortunate to be able use Telecom House as the venue for the AGM. Entry will be through the front door off Hereford St, beside Kenny's restaurant. Parking is available in the basement. A map is drawn at the end of this newsletter to assist you. As entry after hours into the building is by security access only, you will have to be let in and escorted to the lift. Someone will be available to let you in from 3.45pm onwards, and they will keep checking until about 4.30pm so please be prompt.
An agenda is enclosed, along with a committee nomination form. All of the current committee is willing to stand for another term, but new members are always welcome. I thank the committee for their efforts over this past challenging year, and I look forward to working with them (and any new members) again next year.
After the AGM, the Club will be providing meat and sausages for a barbecue, and red and white wine. It would be most appreciated if you could please bring some salads, sweets, and any other drinks you may like. Tea and coffee will also be provided. The barbecue will also be held at Telecom House.
I look forward to seeing you all there.
The races were a lot of fun, set on a fair course in great conditions. The winners of each section will be presented their prize at the AGM, or sent out to them if they can't make it.

Both lodges are very under utilized during the summer, and in attempt to change this, enclosed is a copy of this years summer program run by DoC. All of those who have participated in previous programs will agree that they are very worthwhile, and get you into areas of the Park not usually visited.
Also enclosed are mini-posters advertising the Club facilities during the summer season. Please put these up on notice boards at work, school, church, anywhere that will gain attention and hopefully a visit.
The committee will again be writing to mountain biking clubs, tramping clubs, etc, making them aware of the Club and encouraging them to stay. If you have any suggestions of other groups that it would be worth sending information to, then please do not hesitate in contacting me.
In order to conserve Club funds, only essential maintenance will be done next year. This means that it is likely that only one working bee will be held. It is provisionally set for 25-25 March 2000.
If anybody has about 3m of ¾ inch fuel hose that they would like to donate to a good cause, then the Club could make very good use of it on the diesel fuel system of the generator. Even though the mountain lodge is on mains power, the generator is maintained ready for use.
Thank you for your continuing support of the Club through the last couple of difficult years, and your continued support over the years to come. Have a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year.
If you have any suggestions or queries, please do not hesitate in contacting any Committee Member.
