Dear Member
The season is over with the best year since the 1995 eruption in terms of snow and Club usage. With a reasonably healthy bank balance, the Club can look forward to an even better year next year. Please come along to the AGM to find out more and help participate in the running of the Club.
This is the final newsletter of my term as President, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the committee and the Club members for their support and loyalty to the Club in what have been some very challenging years. Without this and your continued support, the Club will cease to function with what I believe would be a great loss for those who have enjoyed the Club and its facilities. Have a safe and prosperous Christmas and New Year, and an even better ski season next year. I look forward to seeing you at the AGM and down at the Mountain.
As advertised in the September newsletter, the Club annual general meeting for is at 4.00pm, 26 November 2000. Enclosed is the meeting agenda. Please note that the previously advertised location has changed to St Chads Hall, cnr Taumata St and Sandringham Rd.
Afterwards, the Club will provide a barbecue and some wine, with members asked to bring a plate of either salads or sweet and any other alcohol you may require.
All positions on the committee are open to election at the AGM (i.e. President, Secretary, Treasurer, Booking Officer, Club Captain, and other non-office holding positions). Please start considering now which positions best suit your own abilities. The current six members have a combined total of 30 years on the committee, so it is time for some new ones. Please feel free to call any committee member to find out more about what is involved. It is a great way for newer Club members to contribute and meet other members. It doesn't take up much of your time, and the more people on the committee, the easier it is. Nominations will be accepted at the meeting.
The sporting highlight of the year had to be postponed until next year due to a lack of snow on the allocated race course. However, after lunch on Saturday, advantage was taken of the beautiful weather and a large group walked to the summit and skied back to the lodge. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the food and wine that night.
At dinner on race Saturday, the $200 Snow Centre voucher was drawn from the names of new members this year and the person who recruited them. The lucky person is Stephen Chaney.
The Club has a large amount of donated underfelt and carpet ready for laying at National Park. If any member knows of a good carpet layer who would like to lay the carpet in exchange for negotiated accommodation, then please pass their name onto any committee member.
At the writing of this newsletter, the Commerce Commission had requested another extension until 14 November to present their decision.
Many thanks to Natalie Meek and her able assistant Simon Daniel (and all of the others who lent a hand when required) who acted as cook/ lodge leader over winter.
In order to promote and encourage use of both lodges over the summer season, enclosed is a copy of the DoC summer programme, and three copies of a Club accommodation poster. While the poster is primarily for the National Park lodge, the Mountain lodge is also available but it is preferred that a Club member familiar with it is part of any party staying there.
Please put these posters up at your workplace or anywhere else you think is suitable.
I can send you some more pre-cut posters if you run out.
If you have any suggestions or queries, please do not hesitate in contacting any Committee Member.
