Dear Member
Welcome to the first newsletter for 2001. I trust that you had a good summer break, and even though we are still coping with the summer heat, it is time to start looking forward to the ski season. Last year was much better for the Club financially than the few years before it. There is still a long way to go before the usage last seen in the early nineties is reached again, but with careful management and your continued support, the Club facilities will be enjoyed for many years to come.
Twenty members attended, heard the various reports and enjoyed a barbecue dinner afterwards. It would be great to see more Club members participating at the next AGM.
Please support their efforts in the coming year, and don't hesitate in contacting them if you have a query. A phone list is at the end of the newsletter.
The committee has set dates for events during the year.
Working bee - 17/18 MarchWe look forward to seeing you at these.
The AGM voted that the subscriptions remain at last year's rates. A single membership stays at $130, while a family is $260. The entrance or joining fees has been waived again. The payment requests will be sent out in April, which is about the same time that the early season pass for the combined Whakapapa and Turoa skifields is due become available. Based on comments from last year, this will be about $249 for the dual mountain pass.
Once again a $200 prize will be drawn from the names of new members and those existing members who introduced or nominated them. Bring along a new member and be into win.
After a good year last year, the Club can once again afford to continue to upgrade the level of accommodation at both lodges. The emphasis this year will be on National Park, and apart from the usual maintenance and depending on funds, the following is planned; new lounge suite, remove the fixed wooden seats and refurbish the conservatory, paint bedrooms, install wooden slats on the wire beds, and a general tidy up.
A few things need to be done at the Mountain lodge, and these will be done on the first working bee 17/18 March before all of that snow starts to arrive; repair generator room and dangerous goods store doors, paint French doors, build more rock dams, and a general tidy up.
Volunteers can decide which lodge they wish to work at on the day. Remember that the Club provides all meals during the weekend, accommodation is free, and you get a nights accommodation credit for every day worked. The work is not hard and it is quite satisfying putting something back into the Club. Please call David Meek if you are going so that the committee can cater for you.
If anybody knows of some good cheap second hand or new lounge suites, then please call David Meek.
The Club has a large amount of donated underfelt and carpet ready for laying at National Park. If any member knows of a good carpet layer who would like to lay the carpet in exchange for negotiated accommodation, then please pass their name onto any committee member.
Remember that summer accommodation is available at reduced rates.
If you have any suggestions or queries, please do not hesitate in contacting any Committee Member.
