Dear Member
I trust that you had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year, and are now making the most of the summer weather however changeable it is. I look forward to seeing you at the working bees or later in the year on the snow and at the lodges. While you may think that it is too early in the year to start about the winter and skiing, the motions passed at the AGM last year will make it worthwhile to pay your Club subscriptions before 30 April.
As explained in the AGM agenda and on the subscription statements,
$30 of a single subscription and $60 of a family subscription will be credited to your accommodation account if your subscription is received before 30 April 2002. This is also available to new and ex-members with no cut-off dates to encourage them to join or re-join the Club.
It is hoped that the example set by the RAL in selling the bulk of their 20,000 season passes early in the year at a reduced rate, will be adopted by Club members in paying their subscriptions. Also, with the early paid subscriptions boosting the Club funds at the beginning of the year, the extensive refurbishment of the National Park lodge and the finishing off of the Mountain lodge can continue and be ready for the season.
This prize of $200 worth of accommodation at either lodge for 2002 was drawn at the AGM from the names of new members and those existing members who introduced or nominated them. Congratulations go to John Nicholson of Snells Beach.
If you can wield a paintbrush, broom, chainsaw, hammer, screwdriver, knife or provide pure labour, then we can find a job for you.
The two weekends of 16 & 17 March and 13 & 14 April have been set as working bee dates. Depending on the weather, 16 & 17 March work will concentrate on the Mountain lodge, although there will still be work available at National Park.
If you can make it to one or both, then you are most welcome to come and help. Please ring David Meek (473 5353 or 021 63 5353) beforehand so that the Club can cater for you.
The feedback has been very good about the changes so far. This work will continue with more internal painting, new carpets, new mattress covers and pillowslips, and a few other maintenance jobs planned for National Park. It is proposed to do only minor maintenance and tidy up work on the Mountain lodge.
These working bees are not hard and are done for the benefit of the Club and its members. Even if you cannot make it to all of the working bees, every little bit helps. Remember, the meals are provided, accommodation is free, and you get an accommodation credit for every full day worked.
Both lodges are still available for use during the summer.
If you require additional mini-posters advertising the Club facilities during the summer season, then please do not hesitate in contacting me. Please put these up on notice boards at work, school, church, anywhere that will gain attention and hopefully a visit. If you have any suggestions of other organisations or groups that it would be worth sending information to, then please let one of the committee know.
Please welcome the latest member to be voted onto the Club committee, Peter Thompson. Mike Fitzmaurice has taken on the role of Club Captain from Natalie Meek. If you have any suggestions or queries, please do not hesitate in contacting any Committee Member.
