Work Parties

We held the second working bee 13 & 14 April. We finished painting the roof at National Park. The women's bathroom was painted, lots of firewood was bagged ready to take up the mountain. Some down pipes were moved in preparation for plumbing all the roof water to the curbside, cracked windows were replaced and windows were painted.

A good time was had by all. The weather stayed fine and some people went to the mountain lodge on both days. There the kitchen was painted and more work done completing the bedroom alterations.

There is still much to be completed. We have decided a third work party will be needed to complete what we have started. Replacing squeaky metal bunks at National Park, getting firewood on the chair lift to the mountain lodge, roof water to street, paint kitchen walls and prepare floor for lino etc. We do need lots of hands to make the firewood job easier.

If you can make it please ring David Meek (473 5353 or 021 63 5353) beforehand so that we can cater for you. You get a day's accommodation for each day's work you put in. If you would like to car pool email the club list.

2002 Club Subscriptions

There has been a good response to the early payment for an accommodation credit. So far about 50 subs have been received. With this we can purchase the new mattresses, carpet and lino.

New Lodge Fees

To help pay for the new items and to combat some inflation the lodge fees are increasing for the first time since the mid 90s. Mostly this means National Park is up $2 to $12 and the mountain up $4 to $20.

Cook for Mountain Lodge

We need a cook for about 6 to 8 weeks up to the end of the school holidays, October 6th. If you are interested or know someone who may be get in touch with us.

Newsletters via the Internet

There has been a good reaction to distributing newsletters this way. If you know of someone who may be interested in the club ask them to join the list at downhillskiclub-subscribe@topica.com.

Snow 'n' Surf Show

This year we will have a stand at the snow show. The show is now the Snow and Surf show. This gives us an opportunity to do less preaching to the converted and some converting of surfers. If you would like to help out on the stand please email me. I'll be contacting last year's helpers soon. The show is on June 23/23.

Web Site Content

A brief history of the club has been added to the club web site. I am working on a one page brochure with everything a prospective member would need, photos, maps, costs etc. This will be ready before the snow supplement in the Herald.
Next I will do a page on overnight parking and an avalanche hazard map. If you have suggestions or links to add please email me.
