The races were held September 7th and they drew much the same crowd as last year. The results are available online with lots of photos and even a short video! They were held on what was the first hill going up beside the old T bar line. A steep fast short course but quite a good one.

We thought about dsc.org and downhillskiclub.org and then thought, 'what about just skiclug.org.nz?' It's simple, easy to remember and works well in search engines when looking for similar clubs. When you tell people to look us up they don't have to remember the name of the club, just skiclub.org.nz. The old site will redirect you to the new site. This also means if search engines have the old details people will still find us.
There are some new email addresses that go with the change of domain name. Secretary@skiclub.org.nz and clubcaptain@skiclub.org.nz are already working. There will be ones for president, treasurer and booking. These are perks that come with the job and the positions are available. The new domain name went live 20 September 2002.
We have a change this year for the AGM. For the first time we will be combining a work party with an AGM. This is set for Saturday March 22, 2003 at 11am. The actual meeting may move depending on numbers, work priotiries (helecopter lift) etc. It may be pre or post dinner or after breakfast Sunday.
Yes there will be some work to do, mainly the firewood. If we can arrange the shared use of a helecotper (with other clubs) we will get another truck load to go up with what we bagged last year. We may replace an oven and freezer at the mountain lodge also.
There are a few committee positions open this year. Ross must stand down after his two years as president. Grant has been president of secretary about 6 years now and on committee even longer and wants a break. David has been booking officer since 1998 and is travelling this year. Ivan has been treasurer for 4 or more years and wanted to stand down last year. I have bee on committee since 1992 with a couple of years off in the middle, time for someone else to be club captain I feel. So there are 5 top jobs available open to you. Each comes with its own email address which can be a seperate account or redirected to your existing address. If you enjoy the club, the people etc and want it to prosper now is the time to get involved. Don't be shy if you have only joined recently there will be plenty of support from members of old. Feel free to talk to existing committee members. Also there are three other committee members with the celebrious title of "committee member", a great starting job for a first timer.
Turoa ended the season with over 3 metres of snow. It had more then than at any other time during the season. This kind of tells you what a bad season it was, good for snowing, bad for skiing. Too many bad weather weekends!
Whakapapa was similar and had enough snow to reopen from early December 02 to Jan 5th 03. The passes were discounted and bookings were good at National Park over the New Year period. This gives us a good start to the 2003 season income wise.
Just what you have always yearned for. A place to leave your comments for all to see, to tell of the great time you had at the club. Click onto it now.
Doc is to hold a public meeting in Auckland at the Sheraton Hotel Symonds St, Wed 5th March 2003 at 7:00pm.
The meeting is to discuss the National Park draft management plan. There will be a short presentation with the bulk of the plan dedicated to an open forum.
You can see the plan online at
