There is no excuse for not going skiing this spring, there is oodles of snow and all us weekenders are praying that we will finally get a bit of nice weather in the weekend,
the success rate for that has been rather small lately. There is only about 5 weeks left of the season, so don't miss out; ring me today to book your spot. The latest reports from the mountain is that there is wonderful soft new snow and the lucky people down there for school holidays are just having the best time. Have you tried the night skiing yet?????? I hear it is fabulous. Why don't you give it a try
Below is an extract from www.mtruapehu.com. As you can see the spring lift pass is now on sale. Good opportunity to get some skiing in this fabulous spring. There is 2.3m snow on Turoa and 1.9m at Whakapapa.

We did have the x-mas party even though the weather that weekend was atrocious. We had to move it down to the National Park lodge, but that had its advantages as we doubled the amount of people attending. It was a great evening. There are a few pictures here. The next day the weather was the same and most of the people present helped Fiona to get all her stuff up to the top lodge and a whole lot of food. Thanks to everybody who helped. It was a bit of an experience walking up in thick fog, but the first arrivers put on a great lunch for us all.
If you can't see the pictures properly on the mailed version of this newsletter, please go to the website and you will get them in colour and click on them to see them full size.
Chris Hatton-Carr recently competed in the Snow Boarding North Island Masters and he came an excellent 5th equal. Well done Chris.
Well the Downhill Ski Club has had it's share of injuries so far this season
As some of you may have heard our beloved cook Fiona had a nasty fall trying to avoid a small child on Knoll Ridge and has been out of action since. A fractured shoulder, a couple of broken ribs and compressed vertebrae's. She is on the mend though and has been as keen as punch to get back up there, but it looksunlikely that she will be able to return. We have had great support by members staying up there, taking over the chores of delegation and cooking. A huge thank you goes out to those members.
'El presidente's son' Michael had a small mishap trying to show off his great snow boarding techniques on the rails, evidently trying out a new trick (sliding on your back), but he is mending fast and have not been deterred from further extraordinary performances in the terrain park.
Bernie has done the best one of
all though. You can see below what you should attempt NOT to do to yourself
while skiing (reportedly it was a 720 helicopter off a 100
foot cliff....). We can report that he is making slow
but steady progress, but will be out of action for a long time, no fishing
and diving this summer, but hopefully he will be back in full
action by the next ski season. If you want to know what you are in for if you
get bone, muscle and ligament damage in a shoulder Bernie is your man!!

Being seconded as the booking officer for the later
part of this year, I have a plea to all members and non members staying at
our lodges. Please forward your payments before you go down there
and please ring and cancel in plenty of time if you are not going.
We can not guarantee a refund or credit if we get
cancellations less than 72 hours before you go or no cancellations at all (as
has happened several times). This trend is increasing and it is not really
acceptable and not fair on other people who wish to use the
facilities.
I ask everybody to please get up to date with
their payments as soon as possible as the club's survival is reliant on
people paying their accommodation fees (and on time) and we all wish to be
able to use the club as we have up to now with minimum fuss. I thank you very much for your
cooperation.
On the booking side of things,
it has been decided that Bernie and I keep the booking officers mantel for
the rest of the season. There are only about 5 weeks left, so no point in
changing back again. Please keep those bookings coming.
