Hi
Snow Bunnies and a Happy New Year to you all.
Over the last
couple of weekends working bees have been held at both lodges preparing them for
the season ahead.
Working Bee
#1
The first was at
the National Park lodge over the weekend of the 13th /14th
of February 2010 at which 10 people attended. The lodge was spring cleaned from top
to bottom; walls, doors, skirting, windows, ovens, kitchen, bathrooms, fridges
etc. Outside there was usual weeding & lopping. The rear door got that coat
of paint it needed and the bottom bunk bed in Rooms 1, 2 & 4 were lifted to
allow more room for bags to be stored underneath. Additional clothing hooks and a basket
to keep those things you always lose like wallets, keys & cellphones etc
were put up in all the
rooms.
Kieran Mellamphy
was kept busy on the electrical front repairing of the Outside Sensor light,
installation of a new sensor light at the back door, reading light into room 7,
heater in room 8 and sorting out plugs for the fridges. Dimmers were also installed in the
lounge for those more intimate
moments.
The TV Room got a
much needed tidy up and another mirror was installed in the men's. The wood shed
got cleaned out and those horrible drawers became kindling. The ski tuning work
bench area was rearranged in preparation for the arrival of two new vertical
freezers and another fridge to replace the current chest freezer and beer
fridge. To top it off they stacked 7m3 of firewood and bagged
14m3 of wood for the Mountain lodge in the pouring rain that had been
delivered a week early to car park #6.
A fantastic effort!
Work still to be
completed.
Repair to the
floor in the dinning area, snowboard racking in the wood shed and investigations
into a storage unit that would be put where the notice board and table currently
reside.
Working Bee
#2
We were again we
able to get use of the helicopter that was being used by RAL in their efforts to
rebuild the Knoll Ridge café in before this years ski season. A new side-by-side fridge freezer and a
replacement for the old brown oven were flown in along with 1000kg of food, the
18 firewood bags (filled the previous weekend) and some liquid storage cube so
we could remove old diesel from the mountain. We had to work fast as it was a
6min round trip for the helicopter. We managed to get two flight bags filled
with the old oven and other rubbish and utilise the downward trip to get them
back to the car park and off the mountain. Two more flight bags of rubbish were
filled up over the weekend and these were flown off along with the diesel during
the week.
Once the
helicopter lift was finished it was on with the other tasks. The food storage cupboards we
reorganised and re-stacked, the firewood had to be re-bagged into the smaller
more manageable wood bags and move to the storage area in the old swimming pool.
Four unlucky soles got to head up onto the roof to get that second coat of paint
on, 8 hours over the two days.
Needless to say there were quite a few sore backs on Saturday night. The
kitchen was cleaned rearranged so that both fridges could fit and the new oven
installed.
Work still to be
completed
Continuation of
the painting of the bunk rooms, painting of the toilets and the investigation of
fold up bunk safety rails.
A HUGE thank you must go
out to those who were able to give up their weekends and headed down to the
mountain so the lodges are ready for the season ahead.

An additional thanks needs to go to Kevin Frost, who dealt with the two extra bags that were flown down after the weekend and to Bernie, Marie and those involved in sourcing the supply of firewood. It wasn't as easy as you would have thought.
Mountain Lodge Custodian 2010
The custodians that we've had over the last
couple of years are unavailable this year so we will be again looking for
another Custodian for this season.
If you know of anyone that may be interested please let a member of the
committee know.
The Year
ahead
We've started the
year off with some significant expenditure, three fridges, two freezers, one
oven (sounds like the twelve days of Christmas), food stores and wood. Hopefully these along with the work
completed during the working bees will make your lodge experience a little more
enjoyable this season.
Finally you will
have seen Marie's email advising that Membership Subs will be sent out
shortly. It would be
appreciated these could be paid promptly.
Thanks again to
everyone and looking forward to seeing you all on the snow later in the
year.
