Downhill Ski Club

Newsletter July 2005

FROM THE BOOKING OFFICER:

The lodge is very full the second week of the school holidays and it is looking like we may get more snow over the next few days to get that long awaited season underway. Bookings are also coming in steadily for further down the track which is good to see Payments for stays at the club can be done by internet banking which is very convenient and fast. It means I can confirm your booking faster and give you the door code. It tidies things up from my point of view, that I can make sure that everybody has paid before going and I don't need to chase money after the fact. I can provide the bank details to those who are interested in doing it this way. Otherwise sending a cheque to put your account in credit is another way to ensure prompt confirmation of your booking. Please try to help me to make my job easier by using either of these options. NOTE: Just so you are all aware, Bernie and I will be moving house by the 19th August. A new address or phone number is not yet available, but it will be posted on the website as soon as it is available and I will also make sure to include it in all replies to bookings further down the track. There will of course be a mail-forward put in place from 19th August for any cheques posted, but keep a look at the website closer to the date for new details.

Thanks

MARIE HOLMGAARD

Booking Officer

GOOD NEWS!

We have a cook for the Top Club. Natalie starts the weekend of the mid winter X-mas party (20th August) and will be there until the end of the school holidays (9th Oct) weather and conditions permitting of course.

"MORE" GOOD NEWS

Greta and Steve have been working extremely hard filling in forms, getting quotes etc to apply for numerous grants. To date this has paid off in the form of two grants: One from PERRY FOUNDATION of $7,338 with which we have purchased Vacuum cleaner, stove, fridge, microwave/convection oven, stereo and tv/dvd/vcr for National Park and vacuum cleaner, washing machine, microwave/convection oven/ stereo and tv/dvd/vcr for Whakapapa. All brand new, no trademe jobs!! The second grant was from the SOUTHERN TRUST and was for $5,000 which has enabled us to purchase new mattresses (inner sprung!!) 8 queens and 15 singles for Whakapapa lodge. Everybody should get a great nights sleep up there this year. A BIG thanks goes to these two Trusts and of course Greta and Steve

"EVEN MORE" GOOD NEWS

We have an events calendar with what we hope is something for everyone. It will be posted on the website, notice board at both clubs and sent out to all members by mail and email around the end of next week, so keep you eyes peeled for that one and book your stay NOW. (we do reserve the right to postpone or cancel due to unforeseen circumstances).

REPORT FROM RAL's WEBSITE:

At the moment, Turoa has the High Flyer open as well as the Alpine Meadow. Work is almost complete on the High Noon T-Bar which will run on the next nice day. At Whakapapa, Happy Valley and the Rockgarden are open. Upper mountain facilities will open as snow conditions permit. In addition, we will run the Centennial and Waterfall Express Chairs for sightseeing when conditions are favorable. Come up and have lunch at Knoll Ridge.
