Well that was the end of the
2003 season. I can't say that it has been the best we have had. Lack of snow
at the beginning of the season and then lots of bad weather once the snow
arrived. The few good days I had down there were spectacular though and makes
you long for more.
This is my last newsletter for
this season. See further down for a few ideas for the summer season.
The AGM is coming up on the
30th November at 4.30pm at St Chads Hall in Sandringham. We are having a BBQ
and a few drinks afterwards and it would be lovely to catch up with as many
of you as possible, to trade stories about the season, complain about the All
Blacks and lots of other things. The agenda for the AGM is posted on the web site.
Working Bee
Come down and
join us for a fun weekend. The more the merrier and the faster our little
chores are done.
No firm date has
been set yet for a working bee, but we are aiming for end of February or
beginning of March. Log onto the website or register with
the topica mailing list to ge the latest news. It would be lovely to see
as many people down there to help keeping our club nice and well looked
after.
Summer Activities!
There are millions of
things you can do at the mountain over summer. Why not take advantage of the
clubs facilities over Christmas and the summer season. Just give the booking
officer a call or use the booking page on the web
site.
There are guided walks to
the crater from 13 December to sometime in April. These start from Whakapapa
ski area. The lifts reopen for sightseeing from mid December.
DOC has put out a summer programme of guided walks etc. Why not go down and explore the region when there is no snow. These are someof the things that are on over the holiday season. Check it out.
You can find out more about all of this (time and dates) and much more if you contact the Whakapapa Visitor Centre, Ph: 07 892 3729, email: whakapapavc@doc.govt.nz.
Here are a few web sites you can check out for activities in that area over summer:
www.ruapehunz.com
www.laketauponz.com
www.doc.govt.nz\whats
new\tongarirosummerprogramme
www.tongariro.org.nz
A few of us are thinking about going down some time over summer, brave the mountain and climb to the crater. If you are interested in making a good weekend out of it, picnic on the mountain and a joint effort for dinner Saturday night, please give me a ring 09 838 9683 or 025 223 1125 or email me at clubcaptain@skiclub.org.nz to register your interest. I'll be in touch with those interested later when more details are available.
Newsletter
The club is trying to keep the cost down on mail, so if you get the newletter both by email and snail mail I would appreciate very much, if you could email me on clubcaptain@skiclub.org.nz and let me know, so I can take you of the snail mail list. If you would like to recieve it by email instead of by snail mail, then also email me and let me know. I cannot tell who is subscribing to the topica mailing list, so if you could help me out that would be great.
Payments and bookings
We have now got the booking form working on the web site. I would really encourage you to use it if you have access to the internet (the club web site is www.skiclub.org.nz). Click here to go to the booking page. When you have filled in the booking form, it is emailed to the booking officer and a copy gets emailed to yourself as well. I have had a couple in the late part of the season and I think it works well.
Don't forget that the club is available for bookings all year around.
Provided I keep the booking officers job for next season these are my contact details again.
