The ski season is finally here. Hurray. Both Turoa and Whakapapa are now underway. The snow cover may still be a little limited, but I am sure that does not deter the eager and dedicated skiiers and boarders of this club! School holiday is looming and bookings are already coming in, so don't delay, get yours in soon.
This year Ross and Cindy Sutherland are going to be the resident cooks, guides and handymen at the Wakapapa lodge. The provisional opening date for the Whakapapa lodge is 14th August. Ross is going to help people getting to and from the club, which will be especially helpful if you have not been there before and am a little apprehensive about getting there. So if you haven't tried staying up there before, give it a go this year. Once the Whakapapa lodge is open you can reach Ross up there on 07-892 2601 or on mobile 0274-728 332.
As you can see below in the event calendar, there are plenty of events on this season. Don't hesitate to participate. It would be great to have some successful club members to brag about. If you are interested in any of the team events which are listed below, let us know and we'll see if we can get a team together.

WARREN MILLER MOVIE SCREENING
The Warren Miller movie showing recently was great. There was some awesome performances and some truly spectacular ski resorts featured in the movie and all the members that took advantage of the offer had a great night. This years committee would like to thank a few people for their contributions over the last 6 months. Steve Chaney for new chairs and 2 new heaters. Chris Brebner for kitchen cupboards and stove. Ross Sutherland for a couch, bookcase and firewood. Jim Crooks for beenies with club logo (these were a gift to give to hard- working, working bee participants (don't fret, I will get them to you). We have had a very successful working bee, where lots of little and not so little chores got done. Thanks so much to all the people, new and old members, who participated, it was a great turnout.
Payment and booking rules
IMPORTANT: Please take a minute to re-familiarise yourself with the booking rules. This year these rules will be followed more strictly to avoid any problems and to make the booking job a little easier. Most importantly this includes that payment for a booking must be received before you go. The door combination will not be handed out before payment is received. To avoid disappointment I strongly recommend to consider putting you account in credit. It will make bookings go much smoother. Please post payments to the booking officer address below as opposed to the Club post office box as I will not be able to clear the post box to reconcile payments and bookings before the weekends.
We have now got an improved version of the booking form working on the web site. I would really encourage you to use it if you have access to the internet (the club web site is www.skiclub.org.nz). The booking email is checked several times a day during the ski season. The fax and the answer machine can only be checked when we get home from work, so email bookings are preferred. Click here to go to the booking page. When you have filled in the booking form, it is emailed to the booking officer and a copy gets emailed to you as well. If you have any comments about how to improve the booking page please let me know.
