We are currently sending out the subscriptions for 2005-06, if you haven't received one, please contact Marie on 8389683 or 025 2231125 to get one sent to you. Don't forget, to get your $30 or $60 accommodation credit the payment needs to be back to us before 31st March, no exceptions.
Working Bee Update:
We have just completed our 2nd working bee at the top club. We replaced all nails on the roof and spot-touched rust spots, lots of internal painting, enlarged beds in preparations for new mattresses and expanded the cooks room.
We still have to get mattresses, new stove, washing machine, firewood and food stocks up and rubbish down. Obviously we will arrange to have the lift operating. This will take place 16th-17th April. Please let us know if you can lend a hand that weekend.
A huge thanks to those who volunteered their weekend once again.
Next Working Bee:
Our next working bee will be down at our National Park lodge on March 19th-20th. If you can come please contact myself or Marie on 838 9683 or 025 2231125.
The main jobs we would like to achieve are - tidy up outside - dead grass etc - paint external window frames and scotias etc - stack firewood - bag firewood for top club - clean out bike shed - paint kitchen cupboards. Please bring relevant 'stuff', maybe a ladder if you can so we can get to the windows outside.
So please, look at these dates on your busy social calendar and if you can make it give us a call, food and Accommodation provided - AND you earn accommodation credits for the upcoming season - only 4 months to go!!!!!!!
Mountain Clean Up:
RAL is organising a mountain clean up on this same weekend, Saturday 19th March. It would be great if we could have a few club members attend this also. We will give attendees an accommodation credit for this (accommodation and the dinner Saturday night) and you could perhaps do the mountain cleanup on the Saturday and combine it with helping at the club on the Sunday. Please let either Marie or Bernie know if you can attend this. We would really like to show RAL and DoC that we want to help keep the mountain prestine.
Easter and beyond:
If you are at a loss for what to do during easter, why not book a room at the National Park lodge.
Suggested activities
- local tramps
- crater walk
- Tongariro crossing
- mountain biking (Cris and some of his mates are intending to do the "traverse 42" bike ride, you are welcome to join him, let him know, he posted his intentions on the club websites guestbook). This is a great ride, but you may want to start practising now, don't worry about the legs, most of it is downhill, but replace your seat at work with a bicycle seat, because it is the saddle sores that will get ya.
Don't forget there are long weekends at ANZAC and Queens birthday weekends. Good time to go down and get into a bit of tramping or mountain biking. Book your space today.
"SNOW PLANET" : The indoor artificial ski slope is opening in March. So far there are no brochures available but we are investigating any discounts for club members etc.
Closer to the date of opening, we were thinking about having a midweek club outing (No, not an outing of your sexual preferrences Grant), so keep that in the back of your mind. Should be fun.
WANTED
-Newish carpet squares for bedrooms in Mountain lodge - approx. 2.5m x 2.5m
-"rocket launcher to suit Jet Ski (contact John Tan) :-) "
-frilly apron for Grant
